Shouts of 'Merry Christmas' could be heard around Saugeen First Nation as Santa paid a visit as part of the Santa Claus Parade December 11.
The parade started at the James Mason Memorial Cultural and Recreation Centre and drove in and around the village led by the Saugeen First Nation Fire Department with Santa spreading seasons greetings everywhere he went. Big smiles could be seen on children's faces, eager to see Santa and collect candy being offered by parade participants.
The recreation centre was open afterwards for everyone to socialize, enjoy some refreshments and home made treats and have a visit with Santa.
Recreation Director, Anissa Nashkewa said that she thought the annual parade was growing and said that various volunteers and groups had come together to help with the evening. “The Saugeen Education Department donates various things and we also have our social development committee helping out. Vernon Roote, our chief is volunteering as well.”
“It's a nice time for gathering,” said Nashkewa. “Our elders come out as well as our youth.”
