100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce (100WWCGB) have announced a landmark donation in support of housing and mental health initiatives in the region.
The group raised $39,400 at their first meeting of 2026 with members voting to give the donation to the Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce (CMHAGB).
"The need for supportive housing in the region remains significant," read a recent media release from 100WWCGB. "In the past year alone, 375 people in Grey County and 109 households in Bruce County experienced homelessness." The release went on to say that CMHAGB helped 52 individuals make their way to supportive housing.
A portion of the donation will be used to renovate an apartment to create two safe and stable homes which will then accommodate up to four individuals who are currently unhoused or precariously housed, and help to reduce waitlists in the region.
The remaining funds will support the creation of Welcome Home Kits for individuals moving into secure housing. The personalized kits can include items such as bedding, kitchenware, cleaning supplies and lighting "because a home is more than a roof overhead, it is a place to feel safe, settled, and respected," said the release.
CMHAGB's Supportive Housing model delivers programs across the region including in Hanover, Owen Sound, Port Elgin, Walkerton, and Wiarton with every dollar of the 100WWCGB donation going directly to essential items and support for individuals.
Since their founding in 2013 100WWCGB have donated more than $500,000 to organizations across the two counties with new members always welcome.
