Saugeen Shores has announced that it will be updating its Transportation Master Plan (TMP) to reflect growth and change in the community since the current plan was completed in 2020.
A TMP aids in directing how a municipality grows over time.
The updated plan will outline an integrated transportation network that will aim to handle population growth projections with a focus on multi-modal transportation solutions.
"The goal of the update is to prioritize and encourage walking, cycling, and other sustainable travel modes as the first choice for short trips, including access to schools, local businesses, recreation facilities, and local and regional employment centres, while also accommodating increased vehicle traffic needed to support economic growth and community development patterns," the release said.
The study will follow a process approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act and will align strategically with the Town's Official Plan and other municipal plans and policies.
The Town says community engagement is is a vital component of this study and anyone interested can learn more, offer comments, and sign up for updates at www.engage.saugeenshores.ca/TMP.
Two public informations sessions will be held on July 16, 2025.
The first at the Community Hall, St. Paul's Anglican Church, 248 High Street in Southampton from 4pm to 5:30 pm.
The second at the Rotary Hall at the Plex, 600 Tomlinson Drive in Port Elgin 6:30pm to 8pm.
