The "Hockey Hub" mass immunization model is returning to Grey Bruce for the week of January 10 to January 16. The Grey Bruce Health Unit has teamed up with Bruce Power to enable a large volume of booster shots in the fight against rising COVID-19 cases and the Omicron variant.

Hockey Hub sites will be available in Port Elgin (Missionary Church), Chesley (Industrial Park Road) and Owen Sound (Bayshore) with additional clinics available in other communities across the region.

Appointments are required for those 18 to 59 years receiving a third dose and those 5 to 11 years of age need an appointment. First and second doses for all individuals 12 years of age and over as well as anyone 60 plus seeking a third dose do not require an appointment.

On Monday, January 3, Grey Bruce Health Unit reported that there were still plenty of appointments available at most clinics.

Individuals aged 18 and over are eligible to schedule their booster dose appointment through the Ontario’s booking portal, or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre, through Indigenous-led vaccination clinics, participating pharmacies and primary care settings.

Appointments will be booked three months (84 days) after a second dose as the province urgently expands booster eligibility. For those aged 5 to 11 years, the COVID-19 vaccines should be booked at least 14 days before or after other vaccines. Second doses for this age group must be at least eight weeks after the first dose. Second dose appointments are not automatically booked when booking your first dose.

On January 3 the Ontario government announced added restrictions in response to an "alarming" increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations and the highly contagious Omicron variant. These new restrictions are to take effect on Wednesday, January 5.

Schools are returning to remote learning. Social gathering have been reduced to five people indoors and 10 people outdoors. Businesses and organizations are to ensure employees work remotely unless the nature of their work requires them to be on-site.

Indoor weddings, funerals and religious ceremonies are to run at 50 percent capacity while outdoor services are limited to the number of people that can maintain a two meter physical distance.

Retail settings and personal care settings are also permitted to run at 50 percent capacity. Physical distancing is required in line ups and food courts are required to close.

Indoor dining at restaurants and bars is not permitted and restrictions are in place for outdoor dining.
