Huron Fringe Birding Festival

Sun. 26 May, 2019 6:00 am - 8:30 pm

Huron Fringe Birding Festival. May 24 to June 2, 2019. Join us over two four-day weekends to celebrate spring in Ontario! Migration continues north through the fringe of land that follows Lake Huron's great shoreline and channels birds up the beautiful Bruce Peninsula. From our base in MacGregor Point Provincial Park we bird near and far throughout these rich habits. Late May captures the end of migration and the beginning of the nesting season to ensure the forests and fields are bursting with birds! Over 80 outings and events featuring top Ontario and global leaders are offered. Mike and Ken Burrell introduce their book "Best Places to Bird"

Parkeridge Stable Family Fun Day

Sun. 26 May, 2019 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

This will be our second year hosting a fun family farm day.

Entrance is by donation. Waivers must be signed before entering.

Our wonderful friends and family have offered their time and farm animals for everyone to get up close and personal with some creatures that they may not get a chance to interact with on a daily basis. Many of these animals are babies and will be super cute and cuddly. And there'll be horses...lots of horses!

We also plan to have face painting, tractor wagon rides, heavy equipment for the kids to climb in, balloons, rope making, bubble stations and racecars which is all free with your donation.

We will have a food booth with lots of treats and snacks available for purchase.

Last year we were overwhelmed with the number of people who chose to join us, parking will be the same as last year so wear some comfortable shoes and carpool if you can.

This is our home, we are not set up as a commercial venue and we appreciate everyone treating our farm as if it was their own home. No smoking is permitted on the property.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes - Women's House Serving Bruce & Grey

Sun. 26 May, 2019 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

On May 26th, 2019 in Port Elgin at the Queen’s Bar & Grill, an ever-increasing number of men are joining in the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® campaign to speak out against rape, sexual assault and gender violence towards women. The annual event provides a unique and fun opportunity to bring attention to a very serious subject, raise money for the local Women’s shelters and be part of an international movement to end violence against women. Registration will start at noon with the opening ceremonies beginning at 1 pm.

One in every four women is abused. That means someone you know, someone you care about, has been or may become a victim of abuse. It may be your mother, your sister, your friend, one of your employees/co-workers or your daughter. Seventy-five percent of Canadian men feel it is important to speak out against gender based violence. Many are doing so through the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®, not just talking the talk, but walking the walk donning red high-heeled shoes.

Your local women’s shelter needs your help. Women’s House Serving Bruce & Grey (WHSBG) is a high-security shelter for abused women and their children. We never close, provide emergency and short term shelter, counseling and support free of charge.

Monies raised from Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® ensure shelter services always remain open 24/7 and free of charge.

BCMCC - Open Doorways Exhibit

Sun. 26 May, 2019 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The exhibition is the creation of Melissa Comyn, Mother, Registered Practical Nurse and Artist, and her husband, John Comyn, who has a passion for photography. The art installation explores mental health through the art of storytelling and visual imagery. Throughout the exhibition, the visitor will discover various individual mental health journeys through the photography lens and written word. It is the hope that through the exhibition and the courageous stories of the individuals depicted, visitors will continue to engage and discuss mental health as a part of overall health and will have a better perspective of how an individual might feel, the mental health system and the resources available to help individuals along their journey.
