The contract for the building of both the Port Elgin and Southampton splash pads has been awarded to A.B.C. Recreation Ltd.

The decision was made at the February 27 Committee of the Whole meeting in Council Chambers following a Community Services Parks and Recreation Staff Report presented by Jayne Jagelewski.

Of four proposals that had been submitted to build the splash pads in Jubilee Park and North Shore Park, Jagelewski said that staff and key stakeholders shortlisted it to two, then a selection committee interviewed both and A.B.C., who offered an “appealing discount” was selected.

“If approved, staff will continue to work with... both groups in determining a sod turning date as well as a grand opening for both splash pads,” said Jagelewski February 27 prior to the vote.

The financial impact was approved in the 2017 Capital Budget in the amount of $30,000 for Southampton and $75,000 for Port Elgin, said Jagelewski.

Contracts for construction totalled, before tax, $211,286.76 for Port Elgin and $142,013.30 for Southampton.

The Port Elgin & District Lion's Club Splashpad Committee and the Southampton Rotary Club continue to fundraise for their respective projects.
