Four Saugeen Shores Storm teams with play host to over 30 hockey teams during the Caitlyn Cobean Memorial Tournament - International Girls Silver Stick “C” Finals taking place at the Plex in Port Elgin, the Southampton Coliseum and surrounding arenas in Paisley and Tiverton, February 3 through 5.

Although the tournament gets underway Friday morning, the ceremonial puck drop will take place Friday, February 3 at 5:30 p.m. by members of the Cobean family, where the Saugeen Shores Storm Peewee team will face-off against the West Grey Warriors. O’ Canada will be sung by Storm Atom and Novice players and bagpipes will be played by David Glass.

The memorial tournament is in honour of former Saugeen Shores Storm and Silver Sticks athlete Caitlyn Cobean, a Saugeen Shores resident who passed away in the summer of 2008, at the age of 15, after losing a battle with brain cancer.

Caitlyn’s mother, Rona Cobean, has stayed involved with the weekend tournament and, along with the Caitlyn Cobean Community Crusaders, will be hosting a pancake breakfast both Saturday and Sunday, February 4 and 5. The annual pancake breakfast, in support of the Tara Boom Houston Foundation, will take place at the Plex from 7 to 11 a.m. and will feature two pancakes, two sausages, juice and milk.

A skills competition will take place on Saturday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. before semi-final match-ups with athlete proceeds provided from a donation from Bruce Power.
