Members of the G.C. Huston student body along with some helpers trekked down to the Southampton Boat Launch May 13 to release the Chinook Salmon they’ve been raising since last Fall, approximately 100 in all, into the Saugeen River.

Younger students, along their older reading buddies, paired together to release the tiny fish. The smolts were given to the school as eggs last October by the Lake Huron Fishing Club (LHFC), who has 27 schools taking part. In Saugeen Shores, Chinook Salmon have been released by Northport, École Port Elgin Saugeen Central and now G.C. Huston. Schools in Kincardine raise Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout.
