SEPTEMBER 15 UPDATE:  Police announced Tuesday that the deceased body of a male swimmer had been found. Grey Bruce OPP Marine Unit and OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit had resumed a third day of searching September 15, a short time into the search the body was removed from the water. OPP are not releasing the name of the deceased to allow for notification to the next of kin.

The search has resumed Monday morning for a missing swimmer at Saugeen First Nation.

In a September 14 Grey County OPP media release, on September 13, 2020 at 4:11 p.m. Grey Bruce OPP were dispatched to Saugeen First Nation for a missing person in Lake Huron, at Second Avenue South, north of French Bay Road. A witness last observed the male swimmer out from shore, in distress and struggling in the waves.

OPP are being assisted at the scene by the Saugeen First Nation Fire Department, Saugeen Shores Fire Department and South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department as well as Joint Rescue Coordination Centre run by Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian Coast Guard.

An OPP helicopter and two OPP vessels are involved in the search.

The search was put on hold Sunday evening and resumed Monday morning and Grey Bruce OPP are asking the public and vessels to avoid the area at this time.
