alzheimers walk 2018

The 2018 Saugeen Shores Walk for Memories was held at Fairy Lake and saw 75 individual participate, raising $13,000.

The Alzheimer’s Society of Grey-Bruce is excited to be partnering with IG Wealth Management for its largest fundraiser. The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s takes place on Saturday, May 11 at Fairy Lake in Southampton.

In an Alzheimer's Society of Grey-Bruce media release, the organization is excited that this outdoor format is returning for a second year. The event is a pledged walk fundraiser with no fundraising minimums or required walk distances. It’s about coming together, raising awareness and supporting local people. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the walk kicking off at 10 a.m. and closing remarks will take place at 11:30 a.m.

Having taken on the role of Saugeen Shores Walk Coordinator, Melanie Myers is leading the way. “Walking, nature and music are a perfect combination of ingredients that bring so much joy and comfort to our loved ones and families living with dementia and exactly what make The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s so fun," said Myers. "We can make a real difference for people living with dementia in our area. I join the team for the second Saugeen Shores IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s at Fairy Lake to raise awareness and funds for our very important local chapter, The Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce.”

All funds raised through the event will support the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce in the work they do locally. Programs and services are available across the two counties for people living with dementia and their care partners.

The organization puts its feet on the ground in Saugeen Shores with home visits, specialized counselling services, attending Memory Clinics in partnership with local doctors, holding a monthly support group, running the Minds in Motion program, as well as offering training and education.

Walk for Alzheimer's events will be held simultaneously in Owen Sound, Hanover and the Town of Blue Mountains. Last year more than 400 people took part in Grey and Bruce and raised more than $84,000.
