The 150 acres of land at 300 Concession 6 in Port Elgin purchased in February of 2018 from Harold Sutherland Construction and designated to be Saugeen Shores' new outdoor sports complex is one step closer to becoming a reality. In a staff report presented February 25, Director of Community Services, Jayne K. Jagelewski, requested that council authorize the naming of the outdoor sports complex ‘The Lamont Sports Park’. Jagelewski reminded council that “the naming right does not preclude future naming opportunities of components within the park."

Council was more than happy to accept the name and Deputy Mayor Don Matheson went on to say how it rightfully tributes the Lamont’s athletic history in Saugeen Shores and has his total support.

Mayor Charbonneau expressed his excitement in appointing the new name for the sports complex in hopes that it will trigger the design phase of the project. “Talking about those naming rights for some of those other facilities that might get built within is a nice thing to raise,” stated Mayor Charbonneau. "As we start designing the park and working our way through construction we’re going to be looking for partners across the community to help us to build some of those features and to upgrade some of those features and so it’s an exciting development."

As the By-law passed you could almost hear the distant cheers of the crowds as they rise to their feet from the bleachers of the fields, diamonds and pitches envisioned in the minds of council.
