The Southampton Residents' Association (SRA) is calling on its members to support the Nuclear Innovation Institute research centre in Saugeen Shores, and in particular Southampton.

A letter to their membership dated November 9 that was forwarded to media and the Town of Saugeen Shores November 17 was distributed in response to the joint statement by Bruce County and Bruce Power that they were no longer considering the location adjacent Bruce County Museum for the Institute.

The letter stated that the SRA will welcome and support the Institute and that the organization will continue to seek respectful engagement.

In a media release distributed November 17, SRA President William Bowden brought attention to a statement from Mayor Elect Luke Charbonneau asking for Saugeen Shores to support the research centre and echoed that support.

"Consistent with the communication we sent to our members a week ago, the SRA Board of Directors supports the Institute and expressed the hope that Bruce County and Bruce Power would continue to consider locating it in Southampton," read the release. "We are now writing our members again, both to give them a copy of the Mayor Elect’s statement and calling on them to join us in supporting a Saugeen Shores location."
