Saugeen Shores Police Service continues its search for Peter James “Jim” Armstrong, and today, with the help of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit and Emergency LighthouseFULLResonse Team (ERT), took to sky and water in enhanced efforts.

“We have right now the helicopter, an unmanned drone with a camera on it, the dive team with a boat with side scan sonar on it, canine and quite a few police officers including ours,” said Saugeen Shores Police Chief Dan Rivett in a March 17 interview. “They're using their side scan sonar and they'll make a determination to see whether they [divers] go in,” he continued.

Armstrong, age 53 from Toronto, went missing from visiting a relative in Southampton on March 9.

Concerned for his safety due to medical concerns, police put a call out to the public for help on March 10.

Family and friends and members of the public have been providing updates and coming forward with possible leads but Armstrong’s whereabouts has not yet been determined.

Rivett said the search started the night Armstrong went missing. “It’s a concerted effort right now, starting yesterday with feet on the ground,” said Rivett, adding that they'll be out again tomorrow.

“Hopefully the next update will be that we found him and he is okay,” said Rivett.

Residents are asked to continue to check their properties and outbuildings and anyone with information is urged to call Saugeen Shores Police Service at 519-832-2500.
