Chris King Broken StickThe Saugeen Shores Winterhawks continued their recent winning ways and edged above .500 on the season with a 6-1 victory over the Lucknow Lancers on Friday night at The Plex.

An early power play proved to be fruitful for the Hawks as Andy Fracz struck first, teaming up with Nick Quaid and Greg Thede just over four minutes into the first period. Curtis Johnston got his fourth of the season 23 seconds later with Bryan Kazarian collecting the assist.

Brendon Haefling put the Winterhawks up 3-0 later in the first with Quaid and Dave Grant picking up the helpers.

The first period onslaught continued late in the frame as Alex Penner scored his second of the season with assists going to Jacob Brown and Trevor Smith.

Lucknow lit up their side of the scoreboard early in the second as Ean Moffat scored a power play goal and that was it for the scoring in the second as both goaltenders turned away some good chances and checking got a little tighter.

Jay Thomson scored his first of the season for the Winterhawks in the third with Mike Smailes assisting.

Nick Quaid scored a shorthanded goal for his third point of the night earning him Winterhawks Player of the Game honours. Assist went to Fracz and Kazarian.

The Winterhawks see action again as the face the Mapleton Minto 81s at 7 p.m. in Palmerston.
