It was first game of the Bluewater Athletic Association season for the Saugeen District Secondary School Royals on Thursday, September 24, as they played at home against West Hill Secondary School of Owen Sound.

The Royals have a new coach this year, Joey Wentworth, who is a former Royals player.

SDSS Royals teacher rep, Christine Flarity said that over the years the Royals have often won the championship but didn't last year. “We didn't have as much interest in the team and not a lot of kids were playing so I think we call this a rebuilding year. New coach and new kids, lots of new kids, so we don't know what to expect,” she said.

The West Hill Raiders opened the scoring and at the end of the first half the score was 14-5 with Saugeen's points coming from a field goal by Jack Flarity and a safety.

The spread narrowed for a time in the second half with a touchdown by Saugeen's Steven Langendoen on a running play with an extra point kicked by Jack Flarity and a touchdown scored on a pass from Jack Flarity to Tristan Rajendra but in the end West Hill took home a win with a final score 28-18.

The Royals next home game will see them play St. Mary's on October 22 at 2pm.Tristin RajendraMatthew LittleTouchdownKick
