On August 10, 2019, at 4:15 a.m., Grey Bruce OPP and Bruce County Paramedic Services were called to a residence at French Bay Road, Saugeen First Nation for a 24-year-old female with no vital signs.

In an OPP media release, early investigation has determined that the female had experienced an apparent opioid overdose and was administered Naloxone prior to the arrival of emergency responders. She was subsequently transported to hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

On August 15 Grey Bruce OPP Crime Unit arrested and a charged 33 year old man from Saugeen First Nation with Traffick in Schedule I substance - Opioid (other than heroin), Traffick in Schedule I substance - Methamphetamines (Crystal Meth), and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

Members of the Grey Bruce OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Randy Gaynor of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) continue to investigate this isolated incident and no risks to public safety have been identified.
