Witness the rebirth at the south end of Port Elgin with business and commercial developments such as Circle K, Subway, the Port Elgin Southgate Plaza, Ideal Supply and now you can add home to the new Bruce County Chiropractic and Rehabilitation Center.

Dr Laura Barfoot DC and professional partners will be moving from their current Port Elgin Shopping Centre location into a new clinic on property currently occupied by Crosshairs, located on the east side of Highway 21 just north of Concession 6. Ground breaking on a new 6,450 sq. ft. facility is expected to get under early in December with a completion date of Fall 2018.

Along with her husband Matt, co-worker and Physiotherapist Brock McDonald and his wife Michelle, Dr Barfoot purchased the property and together they will own the building while Dr Barfoot remains principle owner of the clinic.

Barfoot said this is her dream come true and remembers when she first opened at 343 Goderich Street. “It was just me in a small office with a friend being my first patient.” Feeling restricted at her current location and with a sizeable wait list, Dr Barfoot recognized that the demand for her model of “a patient centred approach to treatment” warranted an expansion. This approach she said is founded on “no negativity” as her patients are trying to reach their healthy end goal.

The expectations bar has been set high which, Barfoot said, “is a reflection of me.” She credits and provides props to the professional team who has joined with her using superlatives such as exceptional, respectful, awesome and supportive.

When building contractor Landmark completes this construction the new, fully accessible clinic will feature treatment rooms with individual thermostats as well as rubberized flooring for the employees and easier to access floor installed electrical outlets.

Integral to her new clinic building design is a gym three times the size of her current one which will improve patient access to additional treatment options and enable her staff to offer and deliver different rehabilitation methods.

Barfoot is taking a crash course on design for a growing business which will include an expansion to the professional staff list of chiropractic doctors, physiotherapists, massage therapists and more. She is quick to add “as much as I love the business aspect, I love being a chiropractor.”

Not lost on Barfoot is the decision that she and her husband, who hail from Owen Sound, are making. Her husband, she added, is very supportive and quietly fixes everything behind the scenes. With this ‘go big or go home’ approach to development, the Barfoots will call Saugeen Shores and Bruce County home for the foreseeable future, complete with this influential business opportunity.

Saugeen Shores can expect to see and hear more from Dr Barfoot and her husband and she said if a new pool is in Saugeen Shores' future, we can expect to see them getting involved with fundraising efforts.
