Lakeshore Recreation in Port Elgin was host to this month's Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce's Business After Hours event, which offers networking opportunities in a relaxed atmosphere with food, drink and door prizes.

Lakeshore Recreation Event Coordinator, Sue Desormeaux welcomed and thanked everyone for attending. “If you haven't been here before we are a fitness centre and an event facility,” she said, adding that their next event is on March 8, International Women's Day. “We are hosting the Women's House (annual) fundraiser and this year they have Yuk Yuk's coming.”

Master of Ceremonies for the evening, Ann Veyvara-Divinski, Operations Manager and Volunteer Co-ordinator at PRANCE spoke about the upcoming BRASS Awards (Business Recognition of Achievement in Saugeen Shores) which recognizes Saugeen Shores businesses and their owners. The BRASS Awards is also a Chamber fundraiser event that raises money to support community events and initiatives within Saugeen Shores.

Categories this year are Business of the Year, Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Service Excellence of the Year, Not for Profit of the Year and People's Choice. Visit brassawards.ca to nominate a business or for more information.

Veyvara-Divinski also reminded those in attendance about the Saugeen Bluffs Maple Syrup Festival, taking place April 2 and 3 at Saugeen Bluffs Conservation Area. “Why we're announcing that and why we're excited about that is that the Chamber has paid for buses to go from Saugeen Shores to the Maple Syrup Festival,” she said, adding that children riding the bus will have an opportunity to draw and make themselves a wristband while enroute, getting them into the Festival for free.

Next month's Business After Hours will be held at Miller Insurance in Southampton on St. Patricks's Day, March 17.HostsCaitlin Stone and girlsMike Don
