Abby expertly pulled out some impressive bubbles that floated above the crowds at the École Port Elgin Saugeen Central School Fun Fair Thursday, May 30.

The École Port Elgin Saugeen Central School (ÉPESCS) Fun Fair, May 30, drew in crowds of local students, parents, teachers, staff and community members. The fair is a sure sign that summer is on its way which only added to the excitement of the kids who enjoyed activities and treats from various stations and vendors.

Proceeds from this year’s Fun Fair will support the school’s music program and a new sound system. Event organizer Barb Harris said they expect to raise a total of about $7,500, made possible by a long list of local sponsors and the hard work of many volunteers.

Indoors, the gymnasium was packed with games for children of all ages. With a $5 wristband kids played as many games as they liked and collected a prize from the prize table. In the music room, the Wildcat Rockband entertained guests. Outside, the treat wheel dizzied guests with a myriad of baked goods generously donated by parents and staff. And once again, the Fun Fair ran a Silent Auction with themed baskets donated by different classes at the school. Visitors were able to bid on items at their leisure throughout the event.

This year the barbecues were manned by the Southampton Rotary Club, which relieved a bit of the pressure for the Fun Fair co-ordinators. Also new this year, a Live Auction was run by local auctioneer Pat O’Connor that included four tickets to Canada’s Wonderland, dinner for two at Ristorante Rosina and a one week stay at a vacation home in Kimberley, Ontario. The winner of the Rosina’s dinner was none other than Bearama from the Southampton Rotary Club.

Ava, age 6, tried her hand at the slingshot with a little guidance from dad at the ÉPESCS Fun Fair May 30.

Daphne took her best shot at the games set up in the gymnasium for the 2019 Fun Fair.
