On April 13, visitors to the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre (BCM&CC) in Southampton were transported over centuries and continents, landing in the European Middle Ages. The Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA) arrived in full costume ready to educate, enrich and battle.

Families were introduced to the traditions, arts, dress and day-to-day lives of the Medieval characters played by the SCA members. Demonstrations of creating silk banners, weaving and games were put on for the guests. Articles to depict the period were featured in dishes, felts, sheaths, weapons, helmets, armour, banners and manuscripts. Many of these items were created by SCA members to look and feel like an authentic piece.

The outdoor patio was the scene of several heated battles, with SCA members outfitted in real armour, helmets and armed with rattan weapons for safety. Combatants taught spectators the advantages and disadvantages of the different weapons and the ways they can be strategically wielded.
