There was plenty of activity in downtown Port Elgin on Friday, November 23, as a scheduled PA Day for Bluewater and Bruce Grey Catholic District School Boards meant children and their families could take advantage of various Christmas themed events hosted by the Port Elgin BIA.
The Queen's Bar and Grill was a busy place Friday morning as eager children ate their breakfast and visited with Santa Claus as he asked what was on their Christmas wish list this year. Unfortunately Mrs Claus, who was due to make an appearance at The Wismer House for some cookie making fun, was feeling a little under the weather, as too was Rudolph, and, not wanting to pass anything on to the children, stayed back at the North Pole.
There were line ups in the parking lot of Cathy's Flowers 'N Treasures for horse and carriage rides as Gord Sturm, owner of Windsong Horse and Carriage in Bognor, with horses Daisy and Lilly took families on a trek through the downtown core.
At the Port Elgin Branch Library, storyteller Mini Jaques read children's books such as The Wonkey Donkey and There was a Cold Lady who Swallowed Some Snow. Some tasty looking and uniquely decorated exhibits were also on display at the library as part of the Port Elgin BIA's annual Gingerbread House Contest.
