A season’s worth of creativity and craft will be on display April 28 at the Southampton Art School, as a collection of 12 local artists known as the Open Studio Artist Collective will feature their works that have been created inside the art space since the fall.
The show and sale will mark the end of the second year that the Art School opened its doors to local talent, becoming a creative haven during the winter months. The space was open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Local artist Glenda Hird said the Open House is a way to show people what the artists have been up to since November and said that the collective inspires her to create. “We talk to each other and everybody bounces ideas,” she said adding that the entire group shares their knowledge with one another.
Two artists from the Open Studio recently won awards at Southampton Art Gallery’s Feast for the Eyes event, with Glenda Hird receiving an award for Excellence in Fine Art, and Sal Laba winning the Art Appreciation Award for her abstract piece.
The artists will packing up their supplies before the April 28 show as Art School classes begin in May and run through October with two classes taught by Open Studio artists.
The Open Studio Artist Collective will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 20 Albert Street in Southampton and featured artists include Rachel Williams, Peri Jolley, Susan Watson, Jo Ann Sturgeon, Gayle Slinger, Sal Laba, Bonnie Holtom, Glenda Hird, Jenny Haplin, Kathy Guenkel, Sandy Esplen, Joyce Carr, Sharon Barfoot.
The Open Studio Artist Collective has been providing a place for artists to create and has been well used all winter long. The Collective artists will be putting their work on display April 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Southampton Art School.
