APRIL 18 UPDATE: On April 13 we reported that the April 14 Something Different concert had been postponed due to inclement weather and today a new date has been announced. Mark May 20 on your calendar for the annual Musical Extravaganza in support of Summer Music. The concert will be held at the Port Elgin United Church at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. The article has been updated below.
If you love live music then book May 20 at 7:30 p.m. as the date to hear what is being described as a musical extravaganza.
The fourth annual Something Different, featuring local musicians, will be held at the Port Elgin United Church.
From a media release, performers include musicians and singers John Leader, John Stewart, and Jared Koop; The jazz Charlie Bell Trio, rock blues combo Settle The Ghost, and Dorian Gray. The Rolling Thunder Choir is gathering momentum to take the show by storm once again featuring 35 plus singers from tweens to seniors under the direction of Brenda Manderson.
Something Different will cover a range of artists and musical genres with some surprises for the audience.
So what makes this musical event so different? If history is any indication, the idea is not just to have these groups perform on the same stage at the same concert, but to have groups of musicians support each other. The horns play with the choir, the choir backs up the rock/blues group, the soloists sing with everyone and the audience are drawn in, not just as observers, but as active participants in the event, clapping and singing along.
All funds raised go in support of Summer Music Camp 2018.
Tickets are $25 and $15 for students and are available in Port Elgin at Cathy's Flower's ’N Treasures, Blackboard Sound, Rabbit Dash and in Southampton at Bliss or by calling 519-483-2222. Doors open at 7 p.m.
