It was a sea of red and white at Kingsway Arms at Elgin Lodge on June 30 as the Port Elgin retirement home celebrated Canada Day in style with a family barbecue.
Approximately 300 people enjoyed hot dogs and hamburgers, salads and drinks, cooked and served up buffet style by the staff at Elgin Lodge.
With the gardens outside of Elgin Lodge having been transformed in June by Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS) horticultural students, the dining hall was also converted into a red and white Canada Day theme with flags, buntings, Canadian trivia and a large balloon display.
On her last day as Director of Marketing at Elgin Lodge, Caitlin Stone said that the annual event was often held on Canada Day but due to staffing issues because of the holiday weekend they had moved it forward a day. “This year we wanted to make it really special for our residents, their immediate family and close friends,” she said.
