IMG 1859 560Are you a senior who would enjoy working with others on a creative project about an important topic? Do you enjoy activities such as planning, performing, promoting or producing a theatrical presentation? Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre is developing a play with a twist and you’re invited to assist.

The play, “Ye Canna Throw Your Granny From a Bus,” is about elder abuse and tells the story about two old friends who run into each other and in reminiscing share stories of friends who have encountered some forms of senior abuse such as financial, emotional and physical abuse. The serious subject is delivered with humour, sing-alongs and zest, while educating audiences about the topic and help that is available.

Participants are invited to take part in pre-production activities at the Museum in the coming months. Rehearsals with Sheatre’s Joan Chandler and David Sereda happen in August. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Performances around Bruce County begin in September. An honorarium for participation and travel will be provided.

Canadian studies suggest that 8 to 10% of older adults experience abuse. The production’s aim is to help by raising awareness and is linked to the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre’s Elder Abuse Awareness Theatrical Production project that is being funded in part by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.
