crystalshawanda 560Juno award winner and Canadian country music artist, Crystal Shawanda, will be the star attraction at an upcoming concert on Saturday, September 10 at the Hepworth Shallow Lake Legion - Music Hall of Fame Auditorium. The concert is a fundraiser to help “raise the roof” at Saugeen Wesley United Church, Saugeen First Nation, which will hopefully see the roof on the historic building repaired in 2017.

Also joining the event will be the True Country Show band and the True Heart Trio. True Country has played many dates at the Auditorium and is a popular local act that focuses on traditional country music.

The concert is being presented by Saugeen Wesley United Church in association with Bognor Jam Production, Promotion & Consulting. Master of Ceremonies for the evening is retired politician, Bill Murdoch.

A singer, songwriter and guitar player, Shawanda grew up on Manitoulin Island at the Wikwemikong Reserve. Her rise to fame has been well documented. Shawanda is now based out of Nashville and her early days in ‘Music City’ were spent entertaining daily at the world famous Tootsies Orchid Lounge.

Country Music Television documented her history in a six part series entitled, Crystal - Living the Dream. In 2007 she signed with RCA and has since gone on to capture several Juno awards including Breakthrough Album of the Year, Country Album of the Year and Aboriginal Album of the Year. In 2013 Shawanda performed at the Presidential Inaugural Ball.

Tickets are $30 and are available in Hepworth at the Legion as well as Cindy’s Variety; in Saugeen Shores at the Saugeen First Nation Band office, Ralph’s Hi-Way Shopette and Books and Strings; and in Owen Sound at Bayshore Country Feeds, Long & McQuade and Taylor Electronics.
