Art made its mark on Southampton during the inaugural 2016 Art Walk, July 30. The event brought together two established outdoor art exhibitions; the Shoreline Artists’ Art on the Fence and the Southampton Art Centre’s Up Your Alley and Pop Up Alley. And with a new addition getting in on the action, Bruce County Playhouse provided some outdoor entertainment.

Alley230Pop Up Alley, which took place in an alley off High Street, was bustling with activity for most of the day, July 30.

Crowds bustled all the way up High Street to take part in the various art exhibitions that began at Chantry Breezes Bed & Breakfast and ended at the Southampton Town Hall.

Southampton Art Gallery Director April Patry said that moving the two events to the same day, and bringing together the many different cultural facets of Southampton seemed like an obvious marriage.

“The cultural energy that exists in Southampton is really obvious to me,” said Patry July 30. “The fact that we have the Art School and the Gallery, we’ve got a really good functioning group of artists called the Shoreline Artists, and they have Art on the Fence; and we have the theatre company, Bruce County Playhouse above us, and I thought, ‘why are we all not working together - and create something that is one big draw once a summer, and unite our forces’.”
