It's Fun Fair time at École Port Elgin Saugeen Central (ÉPESC) as the school hosts its annual fundraising event this week on Thursday, June 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the school yard.

The family fun event hosts a whole array of games to play as well as a DJ, a photo booth, and lots of treats including cotton candy and snow cones and the popular Treat Wheel. A barbecue will offer hamburgers, pulled pork sandwiches and hot dogs for sale.

Organized by the School Community Council (SCC) all proceeds from the event go towards funding the school's programs, projects and purchases. SCC's Barb Harris said that they are aiming to raise $6,000 this year but said last year they raised $8,000 at the event. “Last year it just floored us, it was huge,” said Harris. “It was a beautiful day. Weather really does play an affect so we're hoping for a good day.”

Harris said there are approximately 25 different games for children to play including Frog Jump and Giant Yahtzee. Children can pay $5 to play the games and are given a passport. “Every game they play they get a punch on their passport and can be entered into a draw to win a prize,” explained Harris.

A raffle table and a silent auction will include lots of items donated from local Saugeen Shores business to bid on and baskets made up from children at the school. “We probably have about 50 or 60 sponsors, local businesses within Port Elgin and Southampton,” said Harris.

Last year all the proceeds went towards ÉPESC's new outdoor classroom. “This year we're leaning towards some of the proceeds to go towards the Phys. Ed. Department, replacing balls and replacing just general equipment that wears out,” she said.

Rain date for the event is June 9.
