A bevy of charges have been laid against commercial vehicle owners (CMV) and companies after an enforcement initiative in Collingwood on May 8.
Officers from Collingwood, The Blue Mountains OPP, and Huronia West OPP conducted multiple CMV stops on May 8. Each was inspected for safety and compliance under the Highway Traffic Act and Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Alliance standards.
As a result of the inspections, a total of 38 charges were laid. Charges involving documentation included having improper class of driver's licence, expired permits, no registration, and no annual safety inspection.
Some of the charges laid regarding the vehicle itself included, but were not limited to, defective braking systems, improper tires, overweight vehicles and axles, and exceeding the registered gross vehicle weight.
There were even violations in the transportation of dangerous goods, including insecure containers, no shipping documents, no training documents, and improper labelling.
Unsafe vehicles were deemed not in service.
Police would like to remind CMV operators of the importance of understanding and complying with all legislative requirements before operating on public roadways. These regulations are in place to ensure the safety of all road users.
Commercial motor vehicle inspections and enforcement initiatives will continue across the region.
