Bruce County is partnering with the municipalities of Arran-Elderslie, Brockton, Saugeen Shores, Huron-Kinloss, South Bruce, Kincardine, South Bruce Peninsula and Northern Bruce Peninsula to offer an event to help residents considering running for council ahead of the 2026 municipal and school board election in October 2026.

The workshop sets out to provide participants with a clear and realistic understanding of what serving as an elected official involves including how municipal government works, the roles and responsibilities of council members, ethical and legal obligations of public office, campaign requirements, time and financial obligations, and the realities of public life.

"The workshop is intended to equip individuals with essential background information and reflection tools to help determine whether municipal public service is the right fit for them, and to prepare those who choose to run to do so confidently and responsibly," read a recent media release from the Town of Saugeen Shores.

The workshop is set to take place at the Bruce County Administration Centre, 30 Park Street in Walkerton on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at 6pm with attendance being offered in-person or online.

Registration for both in-person or online registration is available at www.eventbrite.com/cc/2026-municipal-election-candidates-info-night-4827604.
