The 2026 Spring session of My Dad's Group is set to begin May 5. The group, a long-standing 'positive parenting program' for men in Grey and Bruce counties, offers two locations with meetings on Tuesday evenings in Hanover and Wednesdays in Owen Sound.
Jon Farmer, Men's Program Supervisor, said everything gets more energetic in the springtime. "The sunshine lifts our spirits and gets us outside and thinking about summer," he said. "It's also the lead up toe Father's Day and we're encouraging any men who are interested in personal growth as a dad and in their family relationships to join us for the next session."
Farmer said it's a chance to connect with other dads, deepen learning, find encouragement, and build positive patterns.
Original developed in Grey Bruce in the 1990s, My Dad's Group is run through the Men's Program and is offered in partnership with Bruce Grey Child and Family Services.
"The group gives guys the chance to connect with other dads, learn more about their children’s needs through different ages and stages, and work on the skills they need to be effective parents and co-parents," read a release.
The 12-week program runs weekly from 6-8:30pm (Tuesdays in Hanover and Wednesdays in Owen Sound), is free to attend and dinner is provided. Gas cards are also available for men facing transportation challenges, the release said.
The group aims to explore real-life challenges and give guys a chance to share solutions and support. "We weren't all given the male role models that we needed as kids," Farmer said, adding that My Dad's Group is a chance to ensure men can show up for their children and a supportive and healthy way.
The Hanover group is set to get underway May 5 with the Owen Sound starting May 6.
