Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) Southport is once again hosting the Vigil of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
The 35th annual event is set to take place at the Plex in Port Elgin at noon on Saturday, December 6 from noon to 12:30pm and will remember not only the 14 women whose lives were cut short as a result of a lone gunman who carried out a gender-based massacre at École Polytechnique on the same day in 1989; but all who have suffered and continue to suffer at the hands of the perpetrators of gender-based violence.
This year's guest speaker is Gwen Lamont, author of The View from Coffin Ridge, A Childhood Exhumed[https://gingerpress.com/products/the-view-from-coffin-ridge-a-childhood-exhumed], a book Maude Barlow called "a harrowing tale of abuse, recovery, and reconciliation. One courageous woman’s memoir of overcoming violence and trauma that looks straight into the heart of darkness to find the light."
Donations in support of this year's vigil can be made at the December 6 event, by e-transfer to cfuw.southport.members@gmail.com. Cheques payable to CFUW Southport.
