As construction of the new Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre (AWC) nears completion, plans for the future of the existing Centennial Pool are underway. In an October 29 media release from the Town of Saugeen Shores, on October 27, Town Council authorized moving forward a Purchase and Sale Agreement with the Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) for the Centennial Pool facility, attached to Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS). The School Board intends to purchase and repurpose the pool space.
“This agreement is truly a win-win for both the Town and the School Board,” said Mayor Charbonneau. “As we prepare for a new chapter of recreation in Saugeen Shores, we are thrilled to see this space reimagined to benefit the youth of our growing community.”
The Centennial Pool’s location makes this transition a natural fit. The parcel of land and the portion of the building housing the pool will be purchased by the BWDSB following approvals from the the Ministry of Education and School Board Trustees.
The Centennial Pool will be decommissioned by the Town following the opening of the Pryde AWC, with related work already outlined on page 27 of the Saugeen Shores 2025 Business Plan.
