The Town of Saugeen Shores has received nearly $18 million in funding for upgrades to the Southampton Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) through the provincial Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF).
The HEWSF is a stream of the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program (MHIP) and Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau said the Town is grateful for this substantial investment and said the upgrades to their wastewater infrastructure "are a vital step in building a vibrant future for our community, ensuring that Saugeen Shores can continue to welcome sustainable growth."
The Southampton WPCP treats wastewater and brings it to provincial standards before it is discharged to the Saugeen River. Upgrades to the plant will include a new headworks and pumping system, a flow equalization tank and will enable the construction of up to 1,634 new homes.
