Bruce Power’s FireFit team was down a member at the recent Canadian National Finals in Ottawa, but that didn’t stop them from winning a silver medal in the Industrial category.

From a Bruce Power media release, more than 250 people from all across Canada took part in the event, which recreates real-life scenarios faced by firefighters each day across the country. The members of Bruce Power’s team, who work within our Emergency and Protective Services department, competed in the individual and team relay events.

Members of the silver-medal winning Bruce Power team are Justin Clarke, Donnie Mertes, Joel McFadden and Nathan Perrott.

“This is the second straight year our FireFit has brought home a silver medal from the Canadian championships,” said Al Davis, Chief of Bruce Power’s Emergency and Protective Services Division.

“This year it is a huge achievement, considering our team ran the five-person relay with only four team members. The course this year was one of the hardest courses our team has ever seen, with the dummy drag portion of the course being uphill the whole way.”

Bruce Power’s emergency services organization has over 300 members, which includes fire and security personnel. They provide first response capabilities to the 4,000 employees, as well as hundreds of contractors.
