bball 560The Royals Basketball league has a new sponsor and a new name.

Port Elgin Canadian Tire owners, Mike and Eleanor Mowbray, have offered to sponsor the league which will now be called the Canadian Tire Basketball League.

League organizer, Tim Smith, said that in conversation with Mike Mowbray, “he felt it was a good fit with [Canadian Tire’s] Jump Start program and he believes in giving back to the community.”

In a March 21 news release, the league is approaching 30 years of developing local basketball talent with 2019 being their anniversary year.

A total of 40 spots per division (Grades 4-6, 7-8 and high school) are filling up quickly.

The league runs every Monday and Thursday, beginning on Monday, March 27 through to Thursday, May 11 and boasts skill development, fitness, social interaction and fun.

Boston Pizza has offered to assist with end of the season celebrations. A big thanks to both Boston Pizza and Canadian Tire.

League organizers, Mark McNeill, Kevin Darlington, Tim Smith and a terrific group of Saugeen District Secondary School students are looking forward to another season working with young stars and encouraging good sportsmanship.
