Saugeen Central students took part in a water walk and raised funds for a global water initiative, May 23. Photo submitted

On Wednesday, May 23, the École Port Elgin Saugeen Central School (ÉPESCS) Me2We group held a “WE Walk for Water” event. All classes were challenged to try to raise money for global clean water initiatives and to get out there and walk the track.

In an ÉPESCS submission, while the water walk was pretty short and the jugs were not too heavy, students had a chance to think about the people around the world who have to do these walks many times a day just to get enough water to survive. Students were reminded that although our water was sparkly clean, sadly, that’s not the case for millions of others.

Our goal was to raise $500 that would in turn provide clean water for life for 20 people. Each class did a great job bringing in change and many students even raided their piggy banks and brought in their own money. Thanks to a great effort by all, we raised an unbelievable $845 or enough to provide 33 people with clean water for the rest of their lives.

Way to go, Wildcats, your actions have changed peoples’ lives for the better.
