Bruce Power has begun taking applications for its annual Indigenous Scholarship for Post-Secondary Education Beyond First Year.

The scholarship program, which is designed for students who have completed their first year of post-secondary school or the first year of a skilled trade, will support students from local Indigenous communities at Saugeen and Nawash, the Historic Saugeen Métis and students who are members of the Métis Nation of Ontario Region 7. Past winners are welcome to re-apply.

“This scholarship program will award 10 students with a $2,000 scholarship, and we encourage Indigenous students who fit the criteria of being beyond their first year to submit their written application, which describes their area of study and how it will support their life plans,” said James Scongack, Vice President, Corporate Affairs & Environment.

Apply by email to scholarships@brucepower.com in the form of a letter with the following questions answered in 500 words or less:
Why are you taking the program in which you’ve enrolled?
How do you envision this post-secondary education furthering your life plans?

Past recipients that are re-applying this year must also answer the following in an additional 250 words:
How did you use your past scholarship money?
What have you achieved/how have you improved since you last applied?

Please include your email address, phone number, full mailing address, proof of registration in an accredited post-secondary program (university or college) for fall courses, or written confirmation to show you are continuing with your apprenticeship in a skilled trade (a letter from your community's Education Director will suffice), as well as proof of membership to one of the above Indigenous groups/communities.

Applications are open until April 30. For more information, visit www.brucepower.com/in-the-community/scholarships/indigenous/.
