man originalThe Saugeen Shores Police Service, through consultation with their community partners, is announcing the implementation of a Vulnerable Persons Registry for the residents of Saugeen Shores.

In a November 23 media release, the Vulnerable Persons Registry allows for an improved police response to vulnerable people who may require emergency assistance due to their condition. It expedites the process of locating and assisting vulnerable residents of Saugeen Shores by making essential personal information readily available to responding officers.

A vulnerable person is someone with a cognitive, physical, intellectual, or developmental disability; or other condition which may place them at an increased risk of misadventure.

These conditions may include:

• a tendency to wander
• the inability to communicate
• fascinations or attractions to dangerous locations such as water, construction sites, etcetera
• unusual social responses such as fear of strangers, aggressive nature

In order to be eligible for the Vulnerable Persons Registry, the vulnerable person must also:

• reside, attend school, work, or otherwise regularly visit Saugeen Shores, this would include seasonal residents
• provide confirmation of identity and authenticity of the personal information provided

Registration forms will be made available on the Saugeen Shores Police Service website at www.saugeenshorespolice.com in the coming weeks, at the police station, or from one of our community partners:

• Alzheimer Society Grey Bruce
• Autism Ontario Bruce Grey
• Hampton Court
• Southampton Care Centre
