firefighters 560A high level of firefighting activity at two training sites earlier this month was witnessed as Saugeen Shores offered Nozzle Forward, a cutting edge firefighter training program at the Southampton Fire Hall November 1 and 2.

Fire instructors from the United States were welcomed, training more than 50 firefighters from across Ontario. The course is in high demand and is intended to increase firefighter efficiency, capability and safety.

From a Town of Saugeen Shores media release, Nozzle Forward is an ongoing development of an in-depth study of all things firefighting, a program designed to engrain the fire attack team to make the right choice and be able to accomplish whatever task is necessary for a successful interior attack.

Training took place at the Southampton Fire Station and the former Coffee Time location on Goderich Street in Port Elgin.

The goal of the Nozzle Forward is to help craft more efficient firefighters by increasing the individuals’ competency with their tools and expanding on the conceptual aspects of the fire environment. The course integrated three major components of firefighting; fire behavior, hose management, and fire attack.
