The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) has a new Honourary Chair for the 2017-18 Light the Way Campaign.

In a SMHF media release, Foundation Executive Director Sally Kidson said Saugeen Shores businessperson Mike Mowbray of Canadian Tire has agreed to take on the title of Honourary Chair and help to raise$150,000 for new equipment for the hospital.

“Mr Mowbray has been an integral part of the business scene in Port Elgin for 11 years as owner of the Canadian Tire store, and the entire Mowbray family is known for its volunteer and charitable work in the community. We are thrilled that he is this year’s Light the Way Honourary Chair,” said Kidson.

Mowbray, in accepting the Honourary Chair position, said he has confidence the community will again step up to help out this worthy cause.

“We want to make a difference for local health care. We’re getting the renovations and expansion at the Southampton Hospital site and we need to make sure we have state-of-the-art equipment in the facility,” said Mowbray.

Mr Mowbray said he followed last year’s Light the Way Campaign closely and was impressed with how the community came together to raise the money to reach the SMHF’s financial goal.

No strangers to helping local people, as Mike and Eleanor along with their children Candace, Max and Zach continue to be involved in the community. Through Canadian Tire, they are involved with Saugeen Shores school programs, and as such received the Award of Excellence from the Bluewater District School Board.

Foundation Chair Jim Barbour said work on this year’s campaign has been going on for some time and he looks forward to a another year of success.

The Light the Way Campaign officially gets underway on Sunday, November 12 at 3 p.m. in conjunction with the Fairy Tale Ball Hospital Fundraiser being held at Lakeshore Recreation Centre.
