The marathon continues!

Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope ended September 1, 1980 after the cancer he thought was beaten made a comeback.

The inspirational young man had to cut his cross-Canada run short.

As part of the continuing marathon, G.C. Huston Public School held their annual Terry Fox run September 28 remembering Terry as well as raising money that will all go towards cancer research.

Each student was asked to bring in a “toonies for Terry” which would have amounted to around $600. But, students had the option to go above and beyond, which of course they did, raising $2,606 and contributing to the over $700 million raised to date worldwide.
All of the students showed grit and determination, doing as much as they possibly could to help those suffering, as well as those affected by cancer.

Students received stickers before the run where they were encouraged to write the names of those who they were running for, as cancer has touched many of the students’ lives. They wrote the names of family and friends who had been affected by cancer, or just “Terry” to show their support and dedication to helping others in the fight against the disease.

The path for the run changed slightly this year with students in Grade 1 and up rounding Fairy Lake before heading up to Clarendon Street, until they resumed their usual path down High, Grey, and back down Clarendon again. Students in Junior and Senior Kindergarten ran inside the school grounds. All students ran at least once but some made it around the track three times, putting in that extra effort to show what they can do.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time while supporting a worthy cause that has become a world-wide event taking place in 25 different countries including places as far away as Beijing, Hong Kong, and Peru.
