Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS) hosted its annual Welcome Back Barbecue on September 19 to welcome all of their many new “miner niners” as well as students transitioning to Saugeen Shores from Chesley following the closure of Chesley District Community School.

The School Community Council (SCC) were the organizers and amazing cooks and funded the event through donations making it all happen for students and family members.

The after school event was combined with a meet and greet, giving parents and caregivers an opportunity to check in with teachers and see how the school year is starting off for everyone.

The event got underway at 4 o’clock with hot dogs, hamburgers, cold drinks and veggie burgers for all the vegetarians in the house.

Sweet, all original jazz pieces were performed by The Noodle Factory Project, a 10 piece band led by Ian Burbidge; who has taught many students at SDSS, myself included, the skill of creating and playing beautiful music.

Donations were collected by the SCC for computer technology which the school will be putting to use in the future.

A huge thank you and shout to everyone who helped out at the Welcome Back Barbecue, with many staff and students looking forward to future events hosted by the SCC.

The SCC meets once a month and anyone interested in joining can contact the office for more information.
