The accomplishment of graduating from Kindergarten was celebrated in a big way at Saugeen Golf Club June 26 as a parent committee of volunteers pulled out all the stops for approximately 40 young scholars who attended École Port Elgin Saugeen Central School (ÉPESCS).

While some dressed in puffy dresses, with hair on point, there was no denying that already in their young lives the grads had some connections. Master of Ceremonies for the afternoon event, Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau was on duty to make an address and hand out the diplomas to graduates, his son Teddy among them.

Charbonneau was introduced by CBC Sportscaster, Order of Canada recipient and grandfather to graduate Emma Condy, Brian Williams. Williams remarked that he had spoken at many events “from coast to coast but never anything like this” as he congratulated the graduates. Charbonneau said being introduced by the sportscaster was the closest he would ever get to feeling like an Olympian.

Before starting the role of students, the Deputy Mayor said he was honoured and proud to be at the Kindergarten graduation which saw over 200 family members watch as their youngsters marched, and sometimes ran, to receive their diplomas. Future workforce aspirations were read by Charbonneau and included everything from Registered Massage Therapists to tug boat operators. Caps and gowns were provided by Gord’s Pro Shop & Imprints, with the delicious treats and graduation cake created by Jenna Kreller of Sweet as Cake Custom Designs.
