It was A Hollywood Night at Northport Elementary School, June 27 as they celebrated and recognized the school's 45 grade 8 students during their graduation ceremony.

“This is probably the most significant graduation that you're going to have,” said Northport's Principal, Bill Colley. “Even doctors I don't think spend 10 years in the same school. This has been a nice 10 years and I know we as staff are going to miss you and this is always going to be your home.”

Families applauded as awards were presented to students in a number of fields and categories with Valedictorian's Mya Kinden and Logam Lemcke reviewing their time through the various grades and recalling special moments that stood out during their years at Northport.

In his closing remarks, Principal Colley referred to the grade 8 graduates as little turtles, hatching and scattering across the sand into the ocean. “In Ontario today or tomorrow probably, 140,000 grade 8 turtles are hatching from 4,000 public schools, scattering across the sand to your first pond of life and freedom,” he said. “Here at Northport you've been sheltered, protected and nurtured for the past 10 years. Now you're ready to cross town to SDSS.”

A memory presentation ended the ceremony showing photos of the students as babies or young children before showing their graduation photos.
