Zealma Nickel was recently awarded a Volunteer Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of 4,000 hours of outstanding voluntary service to the Port Elgin Thrift Store from Majors David and Donna Kennedy. Zealma's hours represent 17 years of faithful volunteer service.

Dianne Wright, who became the new manager in 1995, believed volunteers could be a strong support to the Port Elgin Thrift Store’s staff and vision, which was to provide recycled clothes to needy countries, provide affordable used clothes and household items to local families and to generate funds to support local programs. And she was right. Volunteers have proven to be a win, both intrinsically and monetarily, as Port Elgin Thrift Store’s current 29 volunteers sort and hang used clothes twice weekly.
