stop fullThe Women’s Centre (Grey & Bruce) Inc. and Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey are launching, for the third year, their 'Shine the Light' on Woman Abuse awareness campaign in November to coincide with Woman Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month in Ontario, along with the 'Wrapped in Courage' provincial campaign.

'Shine the Light' was initiated in London, Ontario by the London Abused Women's Centre and has now spread across the province. The goals of 'Shine the Light' are to raise awareness of woman abuse by turning the counties of Grey and Bruce purple for the month of November; to stand in solidarity with abused women and support them in understanding that any shame and/or blame they may feel does not belong to them but to the perpetrators of their abuse; and, to raise the profile of the community agencies that can provide hope and help to those who need it as they attempt to live their lives free from violence and abuse.

We encourage you to go purple

Purple is a symbol of courage, survival and honour and it has come to symbolize the fight to end woman abuse.
We are asking everyone, for the month of November, to join us and decorate your business or home in purple balloons, streamers or any other purple supplies and help raise awareness.

In conjunction with Shine the Light is the Wrapped in Courage campaign. By wearing a 'Wrapped in Courage' scarf, you can show that you believe, inspire and give to support women in living free from violence and abuse. In addition, you will inspire women and children who are living with abuse to know they are not alone in their struggle to be free. Both infinity and standard scarves would make a great gift, and are available to purchase through The Women’s Centre (Grey & Bruce) Inc. website or 519-376-0755 and Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey or 519-396-9814.poster full
