Federally it was time for change as the Canadian people voted for a majority Liberal government in the 42nd General Election on October 19, but locally we stayed true blue. Ben Lobb will continue as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Huron-Bruce for another term with a total of 25,803 votes or 44.6 percent of the vote, followed by Liberal candidate Allan Thompson with 23,126 or 39.9 percent, Gerard Creces with 7,558 or 13.1 percent and Jutta Splettstoesser with 1,401 or 2.4 percent.

Seventy-two percent of registered voters in Huron-Bruce (not including those who registered on election day) cast their ballot, that’s 57,888 of 80,355 voters, three and a half percent higher than the national voter turnout of 68.5 percent.

Federally the Liberals took 184 districts or 54.4 percent followed by the Conservatives with 99 or 29.3 percent.
