full FireFitFirefighters from across the region are invited to Saugeen Shores on Labour Day weekend to compete in what has been described as “the toughest two minutes in sports.”

Bruce Power will host the Northern Ontario Regional Scott FireFit competition September 4, 5 and 6 at the North Harbour area in Port Elgin.

“It’s a physically challenging and exciting event which showcases the fitness level of firefighters and the challenges they face on a daily basis,” said Brian Hilbers, Bruce Power’s Chief Legal Officer and Vice President, Emergency Management.

Day 1 competition on Friday, Sept, 4 will showcase firefighters from Bruce Power, Saugeen Shores, and surrounding municipal Fire Departments competing against each other while Saturday and Sunday will be an open event that will see municipal firefighters from across the province and possibly the country go head-to-head in individual and team competitions. Any fire department in the region north of the 401, east of County Rd 81 and west of the 400 is eligible to participate.

Competitors race up a five-storey tower, hoist a 45 pound weight, run back down the stairs to breach entry with a sledgehammer, shuttle run, drag a fire hose to hit a target and then rescue a 175 pound dummy to complete the course.
To register you have to be a medically-cleared firefighter working or volunteering with a fire department. Teams and individuals can register online at www.firefit.com.

Admission is free, and the public is encouraged to come out and watch.
