walk for alzheimers

The Walk for Alzheimer’s Make Memories Matter is happening across the country on Saturday, May 12 and Saugeen Shores will act as host to the Alzheimer’s Society of Grey-Bruce event.

Having taken a small reprieve since the last event held in 2015, the fundraiser will return with a walk around Fairy Lake in Southampton, the first-ever outdoor walk for Saugeen Shores, with Joseph J. Entertainment providing the soundtrack, Tim Hortons providing refreshments, and a face painter hand painting Forget Me Not flowers on an arm or a cheek of willing participants.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the walk getting underway at 10 a.m.

There is no minimum distance required, participants can walk as much or as little as they like with participants walking as an individual, with a team, or in memory of a loved one.

Funds raised will go in support of programs and services in local communities in Grey and Bruce, enabling the Society to offer core programs and services at no charge to its clients.

With a mandate of serving individuals and their care partners living with dementia, the Grey Bruce chapter of the Alzheimer’s Society relies on fundraising, as only 60 percent of their budget is government funded.

From Walk for Alzheimer’s correspondence, it is with the collaboration of community organizations that will help make the event a fun and successful fundraiser. Through sponsorships, pledged walkers, and donations of items and volunteer time, the May 12 walk at Fairy Lake can help the Grey Bruce chapter continue to grow its resources.
